Walking from Three Wells Hotel in Powys, Mid-Wales: A guide to local routes
We have lots of guests come stay here in the beautiful countryside of Powys who are keen walkers, and who enjoy heading off for peaceful excursions – taking in the incredible scenery and relative solitude that the Mid-Wales hills offer.
And as long as you are prepared to navigate the often-un-kept walks and trails, then you are in for a treat as you discover this wonderfully
un-spoiled part of the World.
As my parents are members of a local Rambling group, they happily agreed to make notes on a few of the walks they have done recently, both from the hotel directly and from the picnic hot-spot of Llandrindod Wells that is Shakey Bridge (where we spend many
a summers day relaxing with the children and playing in the river over the summer months).
In Dad’s words;
“There are plenty of good walks from the hotel and in the
immediate area, easily found on OS maps, but for the keener walkers among you who have the technology we have started generating gpx files for some of the walks.
Here are two circular walks that have been done over the past few
months. The 'zig-zag' walk takes you up to the beautiful views from Gilwern Hill while the 'Shaky Bridge' walk takes you past the edge of LLandrindod Wells and across to the river at Shaky Bridge. The latter can also be used as a walking route to the lake in LLandrindod from where you can continue into the town. Both walks are moderately vigorous with some ascents but the views are worth it!”
Please click on the links below to access the .gpx files – and we hope you enjoy! Would love to hear your feedback on these and any other
walks you take in and around Llandrindod Wells.

WHILST THE COVID19 PANDEMIC OF 2020/21 HAS BEEN A DIFFICULT AND ANXIOUS TIME FOR US ALL - AND CERTAINLY FOR OURSELVES AS SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS (AND HOSPITALITY ESPECIALLY!), WE HAVE CERTAINLY BEEN GRATEFUL FOR THIS LAND WE CALL HOME.
Whilst neither Jonny or I are Welsh natives, we have lived here for over a decade of our lives now - and we have three children all born and bread here in Powys, Mid-Wales. We love this land, we love the walking, we love the peace and tranquility.
